The most durable and stable wood in the world.
Accoya is made from wood which is modified throughout by non-toxic, environmentally friendly acetylation. Fast growing, sustainably sourced pine is used but it is rendered vastly superior when its chemical structure is altered to turn it into Accoya. The wood that arises out of this process has increased durability, hardness and improved dimensional stability which matches or even exceeds the best tropical hardwoods. Real Doors Ltd are accredited to use Accoya.
Accoya Accredited
Real Doors Ltd joiners have all successfully completed the “Trained users of Accoya” accreditation.
Innovation in Wood
See the benefits and incredible designs creted with Accoya wood.
A beautiful wood: The acetylation process transforms the appearance of the original wood, making it perfect as a top layer for external doors. It is less prone to splinters than most wood species.
Long lasting: It can be used outdoors and is guaranteed to last for at least 50 years above ground (70 years minimum lifespan according to TRADA), surpassing teak, and will last at least 25 years in ground or fresh water.
Durability: Class 1, the best level of durability possible for wood. Accoya consistently proves itself a high performance wood, whereas most woods are typically variable and inconsistent.
Stability: The wood’s ability to absorb water is reduced by the process, rendering it more dimensionally stable despite changing external moisture conditions. Accoya is perfect for doors as it does not warp, twist, bow or split. Its high stability also reduces wear and tear on surface coatings, lessening the need for maintenance by half.
Vulnerability: The acetylation technology creates a wood that is not suitable as food or habitat for insects (not even termites), reduces the chances of damage by fungi and is virtually rot-proof.
Sustainable: Including FSC on demand and class-leading Cradle to Cradle Gold environmental certification. Accoya is ideal when energy conservation is important and it can safely be reused, recycled and incinerated.
